Every item in your information repository can be connected to other items. This feature provides you with a rich environment for finding, sharing, and working with your information.
When selected, a data item or application item (e.g., an appointment or email message) becomes highlighted and the right pane will contain it's connections.
The types of data items that can be connected to the highlighted data item depend on the data type of the highlighted data item. For example, People can be connected to Projects, Categories, Notes, and Tasks. Whereas Projects can be connected to Notes, Categories, Tasks, Participants, Issues, Sub-Projects, and Background Information.
After clicking on a data item in the List Pane, connections are viewable in three ways:
Click the Graph button near the top of the IRIS window to display a pictorial representation of the selected data item and the data items connected to it.
Connections Pane: Data items connected to the selected data item appear in the Sidebar->Connections and Suggestions Pane(right) and are grouped by data type. If you click on a data item in the Connections Pane, that data item will be displayed in the List Pane.
Data Item Viewer Pane: The connection fields are also displayed in the data item form itself, along with many other types of fields for the data item.
Connections are always made from an item to another item. To make a new connection:
Navigate to and highlight the "source" data item of your choice.
In the Sidebar->Connections and Suggestions->Connections pane (right), double click on the connection type you want to connect the data item to.
OR right click in the area under the connection type header and click "Connect" from the menu that appears.
Select the item(s) you want to connect in this "type" and press OK. Note: hold down the "Control" or "Shift" key to make multiple selections.
To remove a connection, find the "source" data item (e.g., an email) and view the Connections pane in the Sidebar->Connections and Suggestions Pane. Identify the "target" item you want to delete from its connection list (e.g., a project from Related Projects). Right click on this item and choose "Disconnect" from the popup menu.
Note: This does not delete the item, but simply disconnects it from the selected item.
